I co-founded Aestival with three friends in 2019. It was always intended as a passion project, but has grown bigger than we anticipated and continues to occupy a decent chunk of our time and love on the side.
Aestival is, in short, a platform that connects music industry professionals with employers that require their services. If you're a light technician, for example, you can create a profile on the app and connect with venues, festivals, and artists who need lighting support for their shows.

The entire live music industry went on a bit of a hiatus during Covid, but came back in full swing once restrictions started easing. The same was true for Aestival and, in 2022, we were invited to join Music WorX – Europe's first publicly funded incubator for start-ups in the music and tech sector.
We've also received a healthy dose of press coverage via the likes of Musik Woche, Gear News and Hamburg Startups.

I serve as CTO of the company, which in practice means shouldering all design and development work for the platform. It's fun and exhausting in equal measures. We use a modern (and mostly vanilla) Rails stack sprinkled with some pretty, custom-made Tailwind components.
